- On September 16, China Unicom made an official announcement on its website that the company will begin accepting pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 4 in China early on the morning of Friday, September 17, the Sina News reported on September 16. China Unicom stated that users only need to pay 5,880 RMB (US$864.7; US$1 = 6.8RMB) for 16GB memory and 6,999 RMB (US$1029.3) for 32GB memory upfront to own an iPhone 4, including a deposit for two years of mobile service. The prices are similar to the iPhone 3GS that was launched in October 2009 and carried by China Unicom. China Unicom, however, was yet to set a launch date for iPhone 4 and Apple was not immediately available for comment. In addition, China Unicom reportedly is poised to launch the Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) iPad on September 17.

 

-China Mobile's chairman Wang Jianzhou recently revealed that China Mobile will expand the scale of its TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) demonstration networks in some regions. Wang declined to reveal any further details though. According to the SinoCast Daily Business Beat News, China Mobile plans to launch three demonstration networks in Qingdao, Xiamen, and Zhuhai, with each comprising approximately 100 TD-LTE cell towers, before year-end 2010.
